Critique Goyt Valley Gundog Society Jan 2019

My thanks to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to judge at this friendly, well organised show. I enjoyed my day and as always thank you to everybody for their entries and to my hard working stewards.

Irish Setters

Puppy (4, 1)

1st. Blackshaw’s Lanstara Ruby Slippers. Stood alone. 9 month. Well balanced all through. Good head shaped. Well chiselled beneath eyes. Deep chest. Correct topline and tailset. Well ribbed back. Well made hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Hocks square to ground. Excellent bone and feet. The rather slippery floor made movement rather difficult to assess. In excellent coat and condition. BP

Junior (2, 1)

1st Gardner’s Danwish On High (A1). Well made all through. Excellent head and expression. Long clean neck leading to good layback of shoulder. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Slightly sloping topline. Well made hindquarters. On the move he pinned slightly coming in but good going away. Another not entirely happy with the floor. Excellent coat and condition.

Post Graduate (3)

1st Horrocks – Wyldfire Declan For Itchenwych. Not a big dog but very well balanced all through. Pleasing head and expression. I would like a little more chiselling. Good neck and and correct lay of shoulder. Deep chest well ribbed back. Strong well muscled hindquarters. Good bone and feet. Moved well on this floor. In good coat and condition BOB

2nd Gardner’s Danwish Nessarose. Good overall balance. Preferred her head and expression to that of the winner. Well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed. Short loin. Not the positive movement of winner today.

3rd Smith’s Shelindair The Red Scuderia

Limit (4, 2)

Very difficult class to judge in that neither exhibit was prepared to move properly on the floor.

1st Jepson’s Two Acres Lucky Charm. Well balanced bitch with good outline. Pleasing head and expression. Bite could be better. Good forechest. Well ribbed back. Little light on bone. Didn’t really get going on the move although was accurate fore and aft.

2nd Shelindair The Red Scuderia. Preferred build and substance of this dog. Good head and expression. Deep chest and well ribbed back. Correct topline and well made hindquarters. Totally refused to cooperate on the move. Good coat and condition.

Open (3)

1st Cohen’s Caispern Lorenzo With Shushana JW ShCM. 7 year. Slightly longer cast than my ideal. Good head and expression. Clean neck into well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest. Rather long in loin. Correct topline. Strong hindquarters. Moved with drive but not quite accuracy of BOB winner.

2nd – Two Acres Lucky Charm – 1st in Limit

3rd Shelindair The Red Scuderia
