Judge’s Report – Bitches
It was an honour to judge at the Setter and Pointer Club Championship Show, I had a most enjoyable day made even more pleasurable by my two efficient stewards to whom grateful thanks. Thanks also to the exhibitors for bringing so many lovely bitches – I thought the overall quality was high and I came away at the end of the day proud of our breed. What a delight to see my best puppy bitch and my veteran winner going best puppy and best veteran in show. The icing on the cake was our best of Breed, sire of my bitch CC, going Reserve Best in Show – a great day for the Irish indeed. A few general remarks; quality, as I’ve already said was high but there were some plain heads lacking in definition and we need to remember what the standard says about those little details which define breed type like eye shape, kind expression, oval skull, not too much flew and so on. On the plus side I thought tail carriage much better than when I last judged and movement on the whole was good. I loved my final line up which to my mind was full of quality and exemplified breed type,
Class 35 – Special Working Gundog Dog or Bitch 1 Mugfords CH Lynwood Happy As Lark What a lovely bitch this is. She is elegant and racy throughout, excellent body properties, beautiful outline, everything in proportion, strong over the loin and good finish to croup, used her tail well on the move, head long and lean, raised brow and well shaped eye, just the right amount of flew, moved freely with great extension. A great pleasure to go over this bitch who combines beauty with ability in the field.
Class 36 – Veteran Bitch (6,2) 1 Mugfords CH Lynwood Happy As A Lark Repeat, with the agreement of my co-judge Best Veteran in Breed and then went on to Best Veteran in Show, what an achievement. 2 Naylor and Morrison SH CH Anlory Carinena JW Another lovely bitch who also exemplifies true breed type. She has a beautifully shaped head, dark eye and low ear set, good head carriage and gently flowing top line, excellent angulation fore and aft, typical of this kennel her movement is a pleasure to watch, effortless and with great extension, I have seen her in better coat but she well deserved her place in this strong class. 3 Stevenson Lochlorien Scully Foxes Andley Sh CM
