ISAE CH SH – STAKES CLASSES

5th OCTOBER 2019

It was an honour to be invited to judge at this very friendly show. I would like to thank my stewards who did an excellent job and the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity to judge their lovely dogs, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. It was a pleasure to go over such beautifully presented dogs. This is a breed that needs lots of room to move in order to be shown to advantage. The committee provided a large ring and I asked every exhibitor to make sure that they made full use of all the ring when moving, as often, many do not, thereby limiting their dog’s chances. Some dogs that I liked, disappointed on the move and paid the price. I was surprised how many moved very closely behind and how many lacked reach and drive. One of the things this breed is known for is its movement and is something we need to be careful not to lose. Without the ability to move correctly they would not be able to sustain a day’s work in the field, the job of work they were bred for.

THE CHRISTINE HERON MEMORIAL JUNIOR STAKES    7

Two lovely boys headed this class and could easily have changed places on another day. It was a hair splitting decision between these two, but No 1 was the slightly better mover on the day.

1st      Mr P. & Mrs F. Davis       GRAYRIGGE MYSTRAL WIND WITH ALANASETT JW

Elegant 15 month old male. Very much a junior dog, but he was beautifully proportioned, very balanced and presented in gleaming coat. Dark, mischievous eye, raised brows, expressive handsome head. Arched neck flowed cleanly into topline, which he held on the move. Super layback of shoulder. Good angulation fore & aft, moved enthusiastically, covering the large ring effortlessly, especially for a youngster. So in tune with his handler, he was a pleasure to watch. Just felt he should have been extended a tad more at the rear end to accentuate his topline.

2nd   Mrs M. Bott & Mrs E. Gratton   BARDONHILL DONT STOP ME NOW

14 month old dog, again very much a junior but another boy who oozed quality. Heavier built and more mature than 1 with a different coat type, but still elegant. Dark expressive eye, raised brows, correct ear set. Good front, neck & shoulders, flowed cleanly into gently sloping topline. Good depth of chest & spring of rib. Balanced throughout. Neat feet, well angulated fore & aft, lovely to see him moving with a lashing tail. Excellent condition & presentation, handled well. Just preferred head and movement of 1. Am sure these two will change places many times.

3rd    Mrs S Chorley-Newton & Misses K. Chorley & E Flinders          KERRYFAIR FOXY FOREVER

Good depth of chest &spring of rib providing plenty of heart room, muscular over the loin. Well muscled, good angulation fore & aft enabling him to move extremely well. Head & neck need to be extended a tad more when stacked. Presented in immaculate condition, a credit to his owners.

2nd Mrs L J Dewar         GWENDARIFF HERE I COME

3 year old dog, heavier set than 1. Lovely masculine head with dark expressive eye & raised brows. Beautifully put together & balanced, clean lines throughout. Wonderful neck & layback of shoulder, deep chest, moved well. Good body properties, presented & handled well. Liked this boy, so unlucky to meet 1.Needs to be extended slightly more at each end when stacked.

3rd Miss L Bougen            GWENDARIFF HOT TICKET J.W.

THE PAT RHODES MEMORIAL OPEN STAKES        7 (1)

1st Ms. M J Henderson              SAMETSUZ MAK’N HONEY J.W.

Exquisite, feminine, elegant 5 year old bitch. Filled my eye as she came into the ring and pleased to say she didn’t disappoint. Just oozed quality from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. So pretty with dark expressive eye & raised brows, correct ear set. Arched neck flowed cleanly into topline, which she held on the move. Super neck & shoulders, good body properties & clean outline. Well muscled, good spring of rib, , arched muscular loin. Stood on neat tight arched feet. Super angulation fore & aft enabling her to move extremely well, lovely to see her lashing tail. Showed lots of character with a hint of naughtiness, such a happy bitch. Presented in immaculate condition, a credit to her owner. Just loved everything about her. If I’d had a Best Overall Stakes Winner, she would have been it! I will follow her progress with interest.

2nd Mr K & Mrs P Stockton         GWENDARIFF D’YA THINK I’M FAB FOR KESPAS

Really liked this striking 4 yr old dog. Balanced & elegant, so well put together. Masculine expressive head, dark kind eye, good stop, raised brow, giving a hint of Irish mischief. Nicely defined occiput.. Arched neck, flowed smoothly into good shoulder placement and correct topline. Plenty of forechest, strong body, ribs well sprung, good body properties throughout. Stood on neat tight arched feet. Well angulated in front but needs more muscle at the rear, which unfortunately impacted on his movement. Presented in beautiful condition.
